The Krank Golf Mini Driver is built for golfers who want driver-level distance without the inconsistency that often comes with it. Sitting between a traditional driver and a strong fairway wood, it offers a different approach to tee shots, focusing on control, forgiveness and repeatable performance.
For many golfers, the driver is the most difficult club in the bag to trust. Off-centre strikes, excessive spin or poor face control can quickly turn tee shots into lost strokes. A mini driver aims to solve that by shortening the club slightly, reducing dispersion and making centre strikes easier to achieve while still delivering strong ball speed.
This review focuses on the Krank Golf Mini Driver. It covers usability, performance and whether it is worth the investment.

First impressions
At address, the Krank Mini Driver looks exactly how you would want it to. It has that slightly more compact profile compared to a full driver, but still carries a powerful, confidence-inspiring shape behind the ball. It does not feel like a compromise, it feels intentional.
Paired with JumboMax grips it felt great straight away. Looking down at the club just feels right, especially if you prefer a more stable grip setup. I naturally teed it quite low, which suits the design and immediately made it feel more controlled than a standard driver.
From the first few swings, it is clear this club is built for players who want to tighten dispersion without sacrificing speed. There is a noticeable sense of control through the strike, which is often missing with longer drivers.
Design and feel
The feel off the face is one of the standout features of the Krank Mini Driver. It is extremely responsive, giving a fast and lively sensation through impact without feeling overly harsh. That balance is important, as it allows you to understand strike quality while still maintaining confidence on slight mishits.
The slightly smaller head and more compact setup help promote a more controlled swing. It encourages you to stay connected through impact rather than over-swinging, which is often where driver mistakes come from.
In real-world use, this translates to a club that feels easier to square up. Whether the strike is slightly off the toe or heel, the feedback remains solid and the drop-off in performance is minimal compared to a traditional driver.
Performance
Fitted indoors with a KBS TG Black 70 Stiff shaft, the performance was strong straight away. The combination of a stable shaft and compact head design created a very repeatable strike pattern, which is exactly what this type of club is designed for.
Ball speed is where this club surprises you. The face is so responsive it genuinely feels fast, even when the swing is not at full effort. That allows you to swing within yourself and still achieve excellent distance.
Compared to a standard driver, dispersion was noticeably tighter. Misses that would normally drift offline stayed far more playable, and strikes across the face retained a good level of speed and carry.
It also fills an important gap between driver and fairway wood. For tighter tee shots or courses where accuracy is key, this becomes a very reliable option without giving up too much distance.
One of the most interesting parts of testing was the actual numbers. I was hitting the mini driver just as far as my driver, which is not what you expect from a smaller head. The real difference came in dispersion. Shots were finishing much tighter, with far fewer big misses, which is ultimately what lowers scores.
- Face so responsive it feels fast
- Strong distance with more control than a full driver
- High forgiveness on toe and heel strikes
- More repeatable strike pattern off the tee
Who it suits
The Krank Mini Driver is ideal for golfers who struggle with driver consistency (like myself) but still want to maximise distance. If your current driver produces big misses or feels difficult to control, this offers a more forgiving and confidence-building alternative.
It also suits better players who want a strategic option off the tee. On tighter holes or when positioning is more important than maximum distance, the mini driver gives you a reliable way to keep the ball in play.
However, if you already hit your driver consistently and maximise distance with it, the gains here may be more about control than outright yardage.
Setup or fit
This is a club that benefits significantly from proper fitting. The KBS TG Black 70 Stiff shaft worked well to keep the flight controlled and stable without feeling overly heavy.
Tee height is a key factor. Teeing it lower than a standard driver helps unlock the design benefits, promoting a more penetrating flight and improving strike consistency.
Grip choice also plays a role. Paired with JumboMax grips, the stability through the hands felt improved, which contributed to more consistent face control through impact.
Outtabounds verdict
The Krank Golf Mini Driver delivers exactly what it promises. It provides driver-like distance with noticeably improved control and forgiveness. The feel is excellent, the performance is consistent and it fills a valuable gap in the bag for many golfers. For players looking to reduce big misses off the tee without sacrificing speed, this is a seriously strong option.
